Things To
Do In Rome
Rome
is the city where the popular saying ‘A lifetime is
not enough’ accurately highlights the almost infinite
things to learn, see and do. The three star Hotel
Virgilio is an excellent place where you can relax
and base your adventure in the Eternal City of Rome.
It is located in the historic centre and close to the top
monuments. Here are some of the most important highlights
that the Hotel Virgilio Rome recommends doing:
St Peter’s Dome offers
an unrivalled view of Rome. Michelangelo’s architectural
masterpiece is 119 metres high. Look down onto Piazza
San Pietro, Bernini’s masterpiece square. An
obelisk brought to Rome from ancient Egypt stands in the centre
of the immense square. The Vatican Museums
are well worth seeing and include an incredible collection
of art and treasure accumulated by the popes. Don’t
miss the Sistine Chapel completed in 1484
representing one of the most awe-inspiring acts of artistic
creativity in recorded history.
The
Imperial Forum is only 8 minutes walking
distance from the hotel and consists of various monuments,
ruins and column dating as far back as the 42BC to AD 112.
The forum lies around the thoroughfare which links Piazza
Venezia and the Colosseum. Piazza
Venezia is overshadowed by the popular Vittoriano
monument commonly dubbed the ‘typewriter’
or ‘wedding cake’ and home to the Alter of the
Fatherland and art exhibitions.
